Off-the-Turnbuckle Hood Latches

Frequently Asked Questions

Do they really stop hood flutter?

Absolutely! One of the drawbacks of the OEM hood latches is that is they allow excessive hood movement. You've likely noticed this when you've been on the highway and a big truck has passed you - it's shimmy city out there.

Our Off-the-Turnbuckle Hood Latches prevent that flutter and give you the adjustability to dial it in just how you like it.

Billet Aluminum? Why does that matter?

We make our hood latches out of billet aluminum instead of cast aluminum like everyone else.

Billet aluminum is stronger than cast. Here's why:

Cast aluminum parts are made by pouring molten aluminum into a mold. This can lead to internal defects like voids or seams. There can also be imperfections due to mold variances.

Billet aluminum parts, like our hood latches, are cut from a single block of aluminum. This gives billet aluminum a more consistent structure, which makes it stronger and more reliable.

It also allows for a much higher degree of precision.

How many different versions do you have?

Our Off-the-Turnbuckle Hood Latches are available in both the classic polished version, our Black Out Series, and our Raw Aluminum version which allows for custom painting & coating.

The Black Out Series is the same billet aluminum construction as the polished version. The only difference is the highly durable black PVD coating. Both versions use stainless steel hardware except the Black Out Series uses black hardware (which seems like an obvious thing to do but you'd be surprised how many companies would have cut that corner).

How hard are they to install?

These are a straightforward bolt-on install using the factory mounting locations. No drilling or cutting is required, and only basic hand tools are needed.

The latches are adjustable, so take a few minutes during installation to dial in the tension exactly where you want it.

Is any drilling needed? I don't want to make new holes in my Jeep.

Our hood latches mount directly to the pre-existing holes on the Jeep Wrangler JK, the Wrangler JL and the Gladiator JT.

No drilling. No cutting. No fuss at all.

OK, so they work on the JK, JL & JT - do they work on the Rubicon and Mojave versions too?

Off-the-Turnbuckle Hood Latches will work with all trim levels of the JK, JL & JT.

Some JL & JT trim levels, like the Rubicon, Mojave, Willys, etc, have high clearance front fenders. You'll just need to take a slightly different approach to mounting the hood latches, with the cable loop facing rearward rather than forward.

Will these work with aftermarket hoods?

Our hood latches are designed around the factory Jeep hood and factory mounting locations. We can't guarantee fitment with every aftermarket hood, so check the hood manufacturer's mounting configuration before ordering.

I'm looking for something to lock my hood - do these do that?

These latches are designed to keep your hood tight to the body and eliminate that frustrating flutter. If you're looking for something to lock your hood, whether keyed or combination, you'll need to find a different solution.
