Our Tail Gunner Tail Lights are made from stamped 5052 aluminum. This means that they're corrosion resistant and durable.

Aluminum is obviously more durable than plastic, especially when you're rock crawling or on the trail. Plastic is great for Barbies, not for Jeep parts.

Some companies make their flush mount tail lights out of bent steel. Not only is steel heavier & more prone to corrosion than aluminum, bending the steel can create structural weakness at every bend.

By using stamped aluminum, we can ensure that every one of our Tail Gunner Tail Light housing is exactly the same, every single time.

Jeep's Blind Spot Monitoring system is not compatible with our Tail Gunner Tail Lights on both the Wrangler JL and the Gladiator JT.

Plug & Play means our Tail Gunner Tail Lights are designed to connect to your Jeep using the factory wiring connections. You don’t need to cut, splice or solder the factory wiring to install them.

It does not mean that every Jeep will automatically recognize a change from the factory lighting system. Modern Jeeps are a network of computers that monitor the vehicle’s electrical system, and some JL and JT models may require a setting change using JScan or a Tazer Mini after installing aftermarket lighting.

Depending on whether your Jeep originally came with factory halogen or LED tail lights, you may also need to install or remove the included resistor. Check the installation instructions for your specific Jeep before installation.

In other words: Plug & Play describes the physical installation and wiring. It does not mean your Jeep’s computers will never need to be told that you changed something

Absolutely.

The install time will be around 1 to 1.5 hours or less. Minimal tools are required and no drilling or soldering is necessary.

Factory halogen lights: Leave the resistor installed.

Factory LED lights: Remove the resistor and install the included caps.

Using a Tazer or JScan to configure the Jeep for LED lighting: The resistor can be removed.

The resistor gets very hot during normal operation. If it is being used, keep it separated from the wiring harness and other heat-sensitive components.
Important note: the resistor will get VERY hot. That's what resistors do. Please ensure that the resistor is kept away from the harness. Any heat damage caused by the resistor is not covered under warranty.

No. A Tazer is not required to install our Tail Gunner Tail Lights.

If you have a JK, the lights are plug and play.

If you have a JL or JT, a Tazer Mini or JScan can be useful because some Jeeps may display a bulb-out warning or hyperflash even though the tail lights themselves are working normally.

If your Jeep came with factory halogen tail lights, you can leave the included resistor installed. If you use a Tazer Mini or JScan to change the Jeep's lighting configuration to LED, the resistor can be removed.

If your Jeep came with factory LED tail lights, the resistor should be removed.

Modern Jeeps monitor the electrical system very closely, and changes to lighting or other aftermarket electronics can sometimes cause the Jeep to report an error even when the equipment itself is functioning correctly. A Tazer Mini or JScan allows you to update the vehicle's lighting settings so the Jeep knows what equipment is installed.

So do you NEED a Tazer? Nope.

Is it worth having? We have them in both our JL & JT.

Because modern Jeeps monitor the electrical system very closely. When you replace the factory tail lights with aftermarket LED lights, the Jeep may see a different electrical load than it expects and decide something is wrong — even when the Tail Gunner lights themselves are working exactly as they should.

This can show up as a bulb-out warning, hyperflash, or the Jeep reporting that the left or right rear light is out.

If your Tail Gunner lights are physically working correctly, this is usually a vehicle configuration issue, not a failed light.

Check the Troubleshooting section of the installation instructions for your Jeep. Depending on the model and factory lighting package, the fix may involve removing or using the included resistor, or changing the Jeep’s lighting settings with JScan or a Tazer Mini.

Your Jeep is a network of computers with a drivetrain attached. Sometimes when you change the hardware, you also have to tell the computers what you changed.

Usually, yes. Keep in mind that aftermarket stereos, backup cameras, trailer wiring, remote starts, lighting controllers, and other electronics can all interact with the Jeep’s electrical system. If another aftermarket device begins behaving strangely after the lights are installed, that does not mean the tail lights are malfunctioning
