- #4 Phillips Screwdriver
- #2 Flat Head Screwdriver
Warnings
You are working on the fuel system! Take precautions to keep away any source of heat or flames.
Step 1 — Remove Screws
Locate the Phllips head screws holding the tail light in place. Remove only the two inner screws as indicated in the picture.
Step 2 — Remove Driver's Side Tail Light
Pull the tail light out of the body on the side you removed the screws. Slide the light toward the center of the vehicle to remove from body.
Step 3 — Secure Tail Light
Secure the tail light by balancing on the bumper. If necessary, unplug the light from the wiring harness.
Step 4 — Remove Fuel Cap
Loosen and remove fuel cap. Detach the fuel cap retaining line using the #2 flat head screwdriver.
Step 5 — Release Filler Tabs
Reaching through the tail light cavity, locate the tabs on the back of the filler neck housing. Depress the top tabs first to release it from the body.
Step 6 — Release all Tabs
After depressing the tabs, pull the housing away from the body starting at the top and working your way around.
Make sure that all tabs pass through the body.
Step 7 — Remove Housing
Pull the housing from the filler neck. The seal around the filler neck is required to be reused on the new fuel door.
Step 8 — Re-Install Seal
Re-install the seal on the new fuel door.
Note: the orientation of the seal will be the exact same as it was on the OEM unit.
Step 9 — Tab Removal (Optional)
There is a small plastic tab that may need to be removed on some Jeeps depending on the the alignment with the body. Use a side cutter or blade to remove the tab as required.
Step 10 — Install New Fuel Door
Push the new fuel door over the filler neck and clip into the body of the vehicle.
Step 11 — Re-Install Fuel Cap
Re-Install the fuel cap and the fuel cap retaining line. Close the fuel door.
Step 12 — Re-Install Tail Light
Re-install the tail light using the original hardware. Be careful not to overtighten the screws.
Notes & Maintenance
Before you being installation, read all instructions thoroughly.
Proper tools will improve the quality of installation and reduce the time required.
For black finishes, mild soap may be used to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or other similar products that may damage the finish.
Periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight.
