Warnings

The resistor will get hot - do not bundle the resistor up with the rest of the wiring - some customers use high-heat double sided tape, metal zip ties or other high-temp fasteners (machine screws or nuts/bolts). Failure to keep the resistor away can result in melting of the wiring harness or other damage making the lights inoperable. Damage caused by improperly located resistors is not covered by warranty

Step 1 — Remove Factory Tail Light

Remove Factory Tail Light

Drop down the tailgate to access the mounting hardware for the factory tail lights.

Using an 8mm socket and ratchet, remove the hardware and retain for future use.

Pull the tail light from from the mount towards the rear of the vehicle.

Release the electrical connection by sliding the red locking tab back, depressing the black tab down and pulling the connection apart.

Step 2 — Remove Factory Ball Stud & Re-Install

Remove Factory Ball Stud & Re-Install

Remove the ball stud from the OE factory tail lights. Install them on your new Tail Gunner Tail Lights using a 10 mm socket & ratchet.

Note: If you do not have the factory ball studs, make sure to purchase our Stud Mount Kit.

The Stud Mount Kit has longer studs than the OE studs and makes installation easier so is recommended even if you have the OE ball studs.

Step 3 — Connect the Harness

Connect the wiring harness by pushing the connectors together until the black tabs click, then lock it by sliding the black tab down.

Note: If you have the OEM LED Light Option, you will want to remove the resistor from the harness and terminate the ends using the included black plastic wiring caps. See video for details.

If you have the OE Halogen Light Option, you will need to keep the resistor in the harness or remove it and use a device like a Tazer from Z Automotive or J-Scan to reprogram the Gladiator to LED mode.

Step 4 — Install Tail Lights

Align the ball studs with the factory mounting tab inside the Gladiator and push the tail light into position.

Holding the tail light tightly in place, reinstall the factory mounting screws using the 8mm ratchet. Do not overtighten.

Note: if you are having challenges making the bracket snug to the body, watch this video. Occasionally the OE mounting tab inside the Gladiator has been bent so it takes some adjustment to make sure the ball stud lines up correctly.

Step 5 — Troubleshooting

What do I do if I have Blind Spot Monitoring?

Our Tail Gunner Tail Lights are not compatible with Jeep's Blind Spot Monitoring sensors (they can't see through the aluminum armor). You will need to use a device like a Tazer Mini or J-Scan to turn off the BFCM functionality.

What do I do if I get a fast flash or light out warning in my dash?

Step 1: Confirm whether or not the tail lights actually work. (If for some reason the lights are not working, ensure all connections are secure, the light is installed correctly and reach out to customer service if the problem continues).

Step 2: Are you still using the resistor? Only use the resistor if you have the OE Halogen package. If you have the OE LED package, using the resistor can lead to this error. Remove the resistor. The warning should reset after 5 to 10 cycles.

Step 3: If you have removed the resistor and have the LED option and they are working, the warning is because your Jeep's computer is confused by the new lights. This is a completely normal part of adding aftermarket electronics to modern vehicles.

Using devices like the Tazer Mini or J-Scan can solve this conflict. You can see the instructions here:

For additional information, please consult your programmer's instruction manual. This video above is also very helpful for understanding the fast flash error.

Notes & Maintenance

Before you being installation, read all instructions thoroughly.
Proper tools will improve the quality of installation and reduce the time required.
For black finishes, mild soap may be used to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or other similar products that may damage the finish.
Periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight.
